Book Review: Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

*cue Gilmore Girls theme song*

This seems so fitting, as the lyrics to the classic Gilmore Girls theme song by Carol King closes out this book. Geeze, Tapestry was such a great album...Lauren Graham agrees, trust me, read the book.

I love Gilmore Girls. It is such a great show, that may not age beautifully in the fashion aspect, but I still love everything it stood for. So I was really excited to read Lauren Graham's book all about her life before, during and after Gilmore Girls. It's a great summer read! So grab your iced tea, or wine, or whatever you like because it's just like having brunch with your new best friend.

This book reads like Lauren was talking to you, and I get the feeling that it's not just Lauren, but also some Lorelai too. You open the book and its like you have just met your new soul mate best friend at work and are quickly trying to update each other on your entire lives so you can instantly know everything over brunch. I recommend reading this book in the sunshine within talking distance of someone who also loves Gilmore Girls (bonus points if they are also a Parenthood and Peter Krause fan). Because I caught myself laughing, 'oohing' and 'oh! did you know?!', or 'GUESS WHAT'-ing the entire time.

Proof that I do as I say:

I learned a few great things from this book:

  1. All diets are the same thing. Eat well, and move more.
  2. Shark Tank is a show I should watch more. Lauren has some great ideas that are bound to show up on there...
  3. Old Lady Jackson makes some GREAT points. I should listen to her more.
  4. I want Lauren, and whoever else she wants to do it with, to do a special commentary on the hairstyles and fashions of each episode. I'd buy that special edition DVD set.
  5. I'm going to need to rewatch all 7 seasons and A Year in the Life now.
  6. Lauren's other book "Someday, Someday Maybe" is officially on my to-read list.

My rating: 5 out of 5!

The reasons I loved Gilmore Girls are the reasons I loved this book. It's just like catching up with a friend you've maybe just met, but already feel like you've known forever. Lauren lets you in on some great behind the scenes on Gilmore Girls and Hollywood life in general and it's just fascinating and lovely. It's a fast read and such a pleasurable read.

You know the drill! Have you read this book? What did you think? Any other suggestions for my next biography/memoir?
