A lot of my friends and fellow bloggers have been talking about self care recently. Many of them are pointing to the recent election as a reason to really look into your life and make appropriate changes to better both yourself and the world around you.
Self care, no matter what that means to you, is a big deal. It is so very important. It's not just about eating right, and looking healthy. It's about your mental health, and even your social well-being.
If you are getting burnt out at work, with friends or family, I beg you to take a step back and reflect. Sometimes, all you need is a quite moment (or weekend) to re-center and you'll be back at full force. Other times, you may need a little more. And that is ok! It's ok to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. I've been there. We all have.
Know that you are not alone, you have people to talk to. In person or online, there is a community for you.
My tricks? Quiet time.
I love Saturday mornings. I try and make sure that I don't have anything booked before noon. So if I need to sleep in, I can. If I want to wake up early, I can. Often, like this morning as I write, our house is quiet. Alex is putzing around the house doing a few projects and I'm reading, writing or catching up on blogs. Snuggling with our cat, Louie. No music, no tv, just...quiet.
Quiet time lets me think, focus and calm down from a busy, hectic week. It reminds me that life doesn't have to be full of THINGS TO DO! It can be comfortable, soothing and pleasant.
So take care of yourself friends, I know a lot of you need that.
