Blogging Anniversary: 5 years!

Wordpress just gave me this great little reminder...I started this blog 5 years ago today (May 13th 2010). 3 days after my 21st birthday. Just weeks before I was about to study abroad in Australia. Wow. I feel both old, and kinda proud of myself! I've taken breaks from blogging, but I always come back.

This blog started as a prompt from my University, as a way to record, develop and reflect on our time abroad. I remember being really excited about this, both going abroad and writing about it! I had never been on such an adventure and I was terrified! Flash forward to when I'm leaving Alex (then just a boyfriend, but now fiancee) and my parents at the security check point at SeaTac. I'm teary eyed and scared, but also exhilarated. I was so far out of my comfort zone, there was no going back. I'm so glad I had that experience, proving to myself and loved ones that I could do it! It is something that I can talk about with pride, knowledge and conviction.

I was given prompts to follow for the blog. Each week was a new topic or directive. I tend to like to do my own thing when it comes to creativity and creative projects, so I bailed on the structured prompts pretty early. Instead, I wrote about what was in my head, what I was seeing, who was making impressions on me. Check out the Australia! section for all those posts.

This blog has now grown into a lifestyle sort of thing where I'm still just writing about those same things. Little daily adventures. I'm a foodie, so lots of recipes. I love fashion and beauty (I work in the industry) so I like to give my take on those topics too. Very Victoria Kaye has been a great outlet for me and my interests.

I'm no longer partying in Australia, but that doesn't mean my adventures are over. Alex and I still have a wandering spirit, we have so many things we want to do and places to see. As responsible adults though, we are tied to a 9-5 job. So I try and treat even the little things as as adventure. Cooking, dressing, running errands and local events. All of these can be amazing, fun and leave you with some of the best stories!

These past 5 years have been good, bad and ugly, just how life happens, just like everyone else's. But I'm glad I had them! Here is to another 5 years of good food, cute clothes and more adventures!
