Best Popcorn Seasoning EVER!
I love popcorn. It's one of my major food groups, mostly because it's something that I can always eat and it is one of the few things I can eat without fear of my body retaliating against me. So...I eat a lot of popcorn. When I need a snack, at the movies, even for full meals when my tummy isn't happy with me and I need something plain but filling. I've gone from heavily buttered popcorn as a child to something a little more sophisticated.
My newest catch phrase in my house is "I make bomb popcorn" and "THIS IS THE BEST POPCORN SEASONING EVER!" I even put that on the jar I use to hold the seasoning. And before you ask, yes, Alex has laughed at me many times because of it.
So here it is: the best popcorn seasoning ever...for a 1/3 cup of unpopped corn (which makes the perfect amount for me and Alex):
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 1/4-1/2 tsp Garlic Powder (depending on how much you like garlic)
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
I'm not kidding! I know it sounds weird. It is. I admit that. But it's also super tasty.
I do not pop corn in the microwave anymore. I make it on the stove top now. It's easier to control calories (if you are counting) and how much you make. Plus it is so much cheaper then buying the bags!
I pop mine in olive oil usually, but I've been known to use veggie oil or canola oil in a pinch. I've recently tired coconut oil, and while it takes a little while to actually MELT the coconut oil, it works well. Not as much coconut flavor as I was expecting though...
Once it's all popped (follow instructions on your jar of popcorn), you can drizzle a little more oil or butter if you so please and then add your seasoning. Use a big spoon to stir the popcorn so it gets evenly coated. Of course, this is my taste buds we are talking about, so feel free to adjust the amounts as you see taste fit!
