Apple Cranberry Chutney

I love cranberry sauce, it's always my favorite part of the holiday meals. I even love the stuff that comes out of the can, you know the kind that if you get it to come out whole, you can see the ridges?  This time I wanted to make something a little more special this holiday season. Chutney is super easy to make, and you can make so many different variations. Check out my Fire Roasted Tomato Chutney too!

For the Apple Cranberry Chutney, You will need:

  • 1 large honey crisp apples, diced
  • 3 cups cranberries (frozen or thawed works)
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 2 tsp finely grated lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Now, combine all ingredients in a pot over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer, stirring frequently.

Once it starts to bubble, keep an eye on it and watch to see the cranberries burst. Depending on if you are using frozen or thawed cranberry, it could take 3-6 minutes.

Let the mixture reduce and thicken for another 5 minutes, and then remove from heat and let cool! You can serve this warm or cold over turkey, ham, or biscuits! It's so pretty, and is both tart and sweet at the same time. Addicting.
