Candied Orange Peels...
This is a very easy thing to do, but it does take while. So plan to make these at least 1 day ahead. You will need!
- Orange peels (I used about half dozen satsumas)
- 1 cup water
- 1 sup sugar
- extra water and sugar
First peel your oranges. What I did was just save the peels from the ones Alex and I ate over a few days. Slice them into thin strips
In a medium pot, add the orange peels and enough water to cover them. Boil for 20 minutes. Drain (you can save the water to make simple syrup!)
In the same pot, add the 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar and bring to a boil. Add the orange peel and boil for another 45-60 min. Until the oranges are very soft and almost translucent. The sugar water combo should cook down to almost nothing.
Remove from pot and drain. Let cool slightly, so you can touch them.
In a bowl dump some sugar. And toss a handful of the orange slices in there. Toss with your fingers until fully coated.
Lay on a cooling rack, or paper towels or a cutting board and let dry out for about a day.
