Spring Time Skincare...Brighten Up!
Spring is here! Which means out come the sundresses (layered over leggings still, of course), bright colors and sunshine...and rain if you live in Seattle like me. But April showers bring May flowers and I'm a May baby, so gimmie those pretty flowers please! Clearly I'm desperate for some color other than gray, grey and blah. Do you ever feel that way when Spring is ready to be in full force?
In the winter I focus my skin care to be about hydration. With the cold temps and wind, your skin takes a beating. With spring, I like to follow the trends and move my focus to be about brightening my skin and prepping for summer.
My skin doesn't get as dry in Spring, so I switch from using my Clinique Moisture Surge Intense twice a day to just at night, and add in my L'Occitane Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream. as my morning moisturizer.
I used to work at a L'Occitane store while I was in college and loved it. The company is great and the products are fantastic. I've been addicted to their things for years, as have all my female family members (the hand cream is a MUST HAVE present for my mother every Christmas). I only recently started using the Immortelle line because of it's anti-aging properties. I love the Shea and the Almond lines, and this was the next logical step since I am on the downward slide to 30 (yeesh!). Now before you start the whole "you don't need anti aging, blah, blah blah"...(I'm going to pull a Kanye), let me stop you for just one second. Your skin starts to loose it's collagen and elasticity much sooner than you realize. With all the things in the air and my ability to love the sun, and getting burnt way too often, my skin needs a little extra love much sooner than when wrinkles will actually become an issue.
The Immortelle skin care uses the oil from the Immortelle and Bellis Perennis (Daisy) flowers. What is so special about these flowers is that the Immortelle is a flower with exceptional longevity: it never fades! Even after it has been picked. I can attest, when working at the store, the flowers bundles we had were shipped in from France and NEVER faded, never drooped, never fell to pieces. In all the years I worked there, I think we only got 1 replacement shipment of flowers for the store. The essential oils are a power house when it comes to anti-aging properties. The daisy is for brightening and evening out your skin tone in a way that is so gentle, it's like magic. Plus, it smells good!
As a human, acne has left it's mark on me. I have scars, I have redness. The brightening part of the moisturizer takes care of that. I also want to make sure I keep getting carded when I go to a bar, so the anti-aging is key ;). The hydration the cream provides isn't too heavy, so it's perfect for spring when the temps are creeping up a little warmer each day and you can't have a super heavy moisturizer weighing you down in the morning. Plus it gives you just a little hint of illumination and dewy glow under your makeup.
I noticed an immediate difference when I started using this for the new season. My redness was diminished, my skin was a little more even all over and I felt like I looked really healthy even without any sort of tinted moisturizer, foundation or powder. I feel really confident in how my makeup will look on my skin when I use this. And I love the fresh, dewy look it gives me, even without my illuminating primer. It soaks in super quickly, so on those mornings when I hit the snooze button a few extra times, I'm not extra late because I need to wait for my moisturizer to settle in.
The other amazing brightening product I use from L'Occitane is the Instant Brightening Scrub. Made with the same 2 great essential oils as the moisturizer for the same benefits. I can't seem to find it online anymore, and they have released a new scrub that seems to do the same thing. It's the Reine Blanche Illuminating Scrub. I'll be getting this one next :)
Long story short, don't think that you don't need anti-aging in your skin care just because you aren't wrinkly yet, and reach for the brightening products if you need a little help fighting the good fight against acne scars. Let me know if you have any other favorite brightening products!
Now, time to stare down the clouds until they give me the sunshine I need!
